Engineering Hydrology

Engineering Hydrology
This is the text book for Hydrology for undergraduate students of civil and Agricultural Engineering written in a simple and lucid style focuses on Indian scenario of water resources with orientation to tropical climate. The author of this book is K. Subramanya who is retired professor of civil engineering at Indian institute of technology, Kanpur. The publisher of this book is Tata Me Graw Hill Education private limited, New Delhi.

Comprehensive coverage and clear explanation make the book very student friendly. This book consists of various feature and characteristics. It emphasis on current water resources scenario in India with authentic and updated statistical data. It consists of latest technologies and applications like GPS, GIS and remote sensing in various aspects of applied hydrology. This book has new chapters on erosion and reservoir sedimentation. It is the comprehensive coverage with emphasis on applicability of concepts presented to field situations relevant to Indian condition.

This book consists of ten chapter. In each chapter we can find references, revision question, problem, objective question. From the first chapter we can get information about the hydrological cycle, water budget equation. History of hydrology and the application in engineering field. Similarly in second chapter we can know about introduction of precipitation, form of precipitation, measurement of precipitation, rain gauge network,  preparation  and presentation of rainfall data, mean precipitation over an area, depth area duration relationship and maximum intensity duration frequency relationship soon like wise in third chapter we can know about evaporation, its process and its estimation, transpiration, evapo transpiration, measure of evapo transpiration, infiltration capacity and measurement of infiltration, classification of infiltration capacities. In chapter four we can learn about measurement of stage, velocity, area velocity method, electromagnetic methods, stage discharge relationship.

Similarly in fifth chapter we can know about hydrograph, runoff characteristics of stream, volume, flow duration curve, flow mass curve, droughts.
Chapter six is prepared with the view to produce knowledge about factor affecting flood hydrograph, base flow separation, effective rainfall, unit hydrograph, derivation, uses and limits of unit hydrograph.
We can learn about flood and its design, risk reliability and safety factor and methods like rational, Gumbel’s etc in chapter seven. From chapter eight, we can learn about hydrological storage routing, hydrological channel routing, and hydraulic method of flood routing and flood control.
Chapter nine is placed with the aim to provide knowledge about ground water and the last but not the least chapter, chapter ten gives us information about process and estimation of erosion, channel erosion, movement of sediment yield from water shed, life of reservoir and soon. At the end of book it consists of useful websites, aberration, conversion factor , answers to objective question and answers to problem. In theme, this book is very beneficial and helpful for engineering students.
